Women's Sexuality

Conversations with the Next Generation about Sexuality:  Their Bodies,
Their Relationships, and Their Power
A mother naturally conveys through her words, actions and relationships how she feels about
sex to her daughter or to the young women under her wings.  But is the message consciously
what we think is really important about embodied love? Can we frankly answer their questions
about sexual functioning? Do we denigrate our own bodies, unhappy with our shape?
Do we have vibrant, intimate relationships with our partners or are we too busy for and too
hopeless about sex? How can we help young women stay vulnerable to love and yet armed
against the risks of rejection and exploitation?  Laurie Watson will help us answer these
questions, and many more.

Laurie Watson
, MA, LMFT, Director of Awakenings, certified sex therapist will discuss women and sexuality
at our February meeting.  She has twenty-five years of experience working with couples and individuals
about love and sex.   Laurie is the host of the  popular podcast FOREPLAY – Radio Sex Therapy.
She also authored her first book,  Wanting Sex Again – How to Rediscover Desire and Heal a Sexless
Marriage (Penguin) in December 2012. A popular blogger for the general public with over 3.5 million
reads on Psychology Today Online in Married and Still Doing It, Laurie also lectures professionals at
Duke’s and UNC Chapel Hill’s medical schools on sexual function and dysfunction. Featured in the Raleigh
News & Observer, Laurie has also been published or quoted in most every nationally popular magazine like
Glamour, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, Cosmopolitan, Buzzfeed, etc. A popular media figure, she has
appeared on the Katie Couric Show and is regularly on radio and television in Raleigh and Greensboro.
Laurie is the director/owner of Awakenings Counseling for Couples and Sexuality, and she  supervises six
clinicians in both Raleigh and Greensboro.
