Exploring the Deep Ocean with Art Howard

Most people think that America stops where the surf comes ashore, where we go to vacation, sun, and swim. But nothing could further from the truth. America stretches far off
shore and deep into the abyss. "Underwater America" is in fact larger thanlandAmerica. Yet it is unmapped and unexplored. Imagine if only 5% of the area we know as America were mapped and understood and if rivers and mountains were off our radar. For centuries, scientists have slowly pieced together the puzzle that is the deep ocean. There is life down there. Unknown species. Unknown formations. And there is so much to discover.

Award-winning video producer and photographer Art Howard has spent almost 3 years of his life at the sea documenting the discoveries of deep sea life. His presentation will highlight America’s effort to map explore and understand this America that most of us will never experience. Art is known for the incredible still and moving images he captures, and for his creative approach to story direction and production. With over 30 years of experience, Art is highly sought after by media producers from around the world and has earned a reputation for excellence with national broadcasters, non-profit organizations, government agencies and corporations.

Art’s work has taken him to all 7 continents, over 40 countries, the Gulf War, and 3000 feet below the ocean’s surface. He has received countless prestigious awards, but his greatest honor comes in knowing that his work contributes to broadening the viewer’s awareness and knowledge of all that exists in our world. Art’s belief that we should never stop exploring, teaching, and learning is evident in the images and media he produces.
