The Black on Black Project
with Mike Williams
Mike Williams is about fostering community. A native North Carolinian, he is the former curator of ArtsNowNC, which was a digital home for the Triangle arts community.
A graduate of North Carolina Central University, Williams has worked in media for 15 years and created content for print and digital publications. A longtime supporter of the arts, Williams hosts and sponsors art events, speaks on panels, produces workshops and organizes community programming. He is also a curator, working with artists in Greater Triangle.
Williams is also the founder of the Black On Black Project, which works with artists of color on exhibitions and events that discuss issues affecting the community. The project seeks to bring communities closer together by promoting the principle of equity.
In his conversation with us, Mike Williams will talk about how art is a transformative tool that can be used to help different communities understand each other better and come together.
He’ll share the why, what, and who of the Black On Black Project as well as the types of programs the Project produces and how those projects impact individuals and communities. Williams will also talk about how Black On Black came about, and how his late mother — an educator her entire life – posthumously influences his work in the arts including a fellowship created in her honor to help emerging artists.
