Disparity of Breast Cancer Survival Rates:
Exploring Why They Exist and Possible Solutions
Dr. Katherine Reeder-Hayes

Dr. Katherine Reeder-Hayes is a health services researcher and physician investigator who focuses on breast cancer disparities and the effectiveness of cancer treatments in diverse populations. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill in the Division of Hematology/Oncology.

Dr. Reeder-Hayes will discuss what defines a breast cancer disparity, and some of the factors affecting disparities in breast cancer survival in the United States, including recent research on differences in tumor biology, diagnosis and treatment patterns. She will focus on how these disparities exist at a variety of levels, including not only the patient but the communities and systems in which breast cancer is treated, and on possible solutions to these challenges.
